| On the way to Osaka, we stop over in Hiroshima, where Yoko treats us to a robata-yaki dinner. (Thank you :-) | |
Eel, turnip, fried tofu, prawns. |
Leek salad. |
Uni spinach!! (Eaten mixed with the butter.) |
Big dried fish hanging above the counter. |
| Someone's dropped these strange gloves on the stairs in the station building. |
|
Thursday 15 November: Osaka - oyster soba for lunch at Mimiu. Note the toothpick holder. The teacup has a rabbit motif too, though hard to see here.
|
Restaurant sign. Mimiu means very pretty rabbit :-) |
Kewpie underground train. |

We visit Satoru Higashiseto, a very old friend of mine who runs Forever Records. It's the first time we meet in over 30 years(!!), and we chat and gossip for 4 hours.
Left: the "cat cover" corner - apparently one of the best selling sections in the shop. |
Only noise music fans over 50 will get these: recent releases by Hijokaidan, with exactly the same cover designs as... "Made in Europe" and "Made in Japan". |
Not only have they used the same typefaces and similar photos, the obi design is the same as the Deep Purple original too. |
|
Friday 16 November: Tokyo - meeting up with Peko at a wine bar in Naka-Meguro. UsaKousa are happy to see Cots again, after nearly 2 years. Right: anago in mushroom cream sauce. |
|
Gurnard and asparagus with tomato & fennel sauce (I think.) |
Watercress & coriander salad with figs. |
Friday 16 November: Stopping in Shizuoka for lunch with Ayame.
Our cold soba with the slimy trio (natto, okra, nameko mushrooms), plus egg and daikon - and fresh wasabi to grate yourself. Shizuoka is famous for wasabi and tea, among other things. |
Logo of a sweets shop nearby: a rabbit making rice cakes. |
