Monday 19 November: We're invited for a dinner with members of UNESCO Gifu Branch, at Kisen.
Kamchatka crab legs and river crab to start.
Sashimi.
The madame brings a big dish covered in tin foil to our table, to reveal these giant heads!
Crispy bits on the outside, which you nibble on like crackers.
Eyeballs are supposed to be the tastiest bits, but we give them a miss.
Fleshy bits.
Right: tempura of a small fugu fish. The green stuff is a potato slice wrapped in shiso leaf - a nice combination.
It was a very interesting and tasty meal - Gochiso sama deshita.
Thursday 22 November: Back at Nomura for another yummy dinner.
Gingko nuts in a cute little dish.
Assorted sashimi for 4.
Squid pan-fried with its innards.
Deep-fried abalone. Very tender.
Mackerel sushi. (With baby ginger labbit :-)
Friday 23 November: Ichiro's mother invites us back for another big dinner: Matoya oysters from Mie (raw and steamed with sake) and crab from Tottori are the main treats.
Colourful corner: shrimps from Tokushima, various fruit and pickled veg, black soybeans.
Nodoguro and plaice from Tottori.
Saturday 24 November: A travel pass case, spotted in a 100-yen shop.
Sunday 25 November: At Takashimaya department store in Nagoya, they have different animals at the side of the escalators.
We do some shopping at the food halls, for a nabe evening with my aunts and cousin.
Crab, oysters and shiitake on top of kombu and flying fish dashi - plus some fish balls and tofu, and well cooked leeks, daikon, carrots and chinese cabbage giving off sweet flavours. It's heaven!!
Rice cooked with tai (sea bream). Unfortunately I'm too full with the seafood and veg, I don't get to eat any of this... shame.
UsaKousa are happy with the big & sweet strawberries (from Shizuoka.)
Doing the washing up, I find a bunny hiding underneath a frying pan.
Thursday 29 November: My last meal in Japan: scallop, horse mackerel and uni sushi (and a clam miso soup and some spicy cucumbers) for breakfast at the airport, before going through the security.
