Tokyo, 2 April: A quick shinkansen trip to Tokyo, for a dinner at Noriko's, with Peko & Komuro-chan. (Unfortunately Peter was in hospital and couldn't join us... Gute Besserung!) Noriko did most of the cooking, with everyone else bringing bits and pieces along.

Assorted sashimi; steamed tofu dumplings with crabmeat; lightly pickled bamboo shoots, Indian mustard and gourd; wild rocamboles (kind of spring onions) with miso dips; a bottle of cloudy sake.

In the middle: grilled broad beans; "hell" marinated squid; mackerel marinated in sake lees.

Bunnies go straight for the dessert.

Turnips cooked in kombu dashi with finely chopped fried tofu.

One of the cats is curious about the dropwort (Japanese parsley)...

...and about what's going on on the table.

It's a hotpot of various mushrooms (slow baked in oven first), with dropwort & grated yam.

It's ready to eat now.

Strawberries (with rose and other flavoured sugar) and pink prossecco after the meal.

And Shiseido Parlour dark chocolate cakes (plain, orange and fig). Yummy!
