17 June: Shopping in the morning. In the liquor store we saw this 2-pint can of "Mongoose" beer. (No, we didn't buy it, so we don't know what it tastes like.)

Then a lunch at Spring Rolls, a Thai/Vietnamese place we'd spotted the day before, with a looong queue at lunchtime. Luckily there was a free table outside. The seafood pho was just what I needed, and the service was also good: we got a huge extra portion of beansprouts, so the bunnies had a *big* lunch too :-)
Some more quick shopping after lunch, then back to the hotel to meet up with Alyson, who'd just arrived from Manchester (UK, not NH ;-) Dave gets back from his lunch too, and soon it was time to go out for a quick bite - again!

Left: a taxi parked outside our hotel
Having checked out the food court at the shopping mall, which didn't impress us, so we head back Spring Rolls (well, UsaKousa and I were the only one who'd already eaten there.) This time we had a prawn sate with mango salad.

And now it's party time! Our friends Glen & Alice, who live in the suburb of Toronto, were throwing a party for all of us mad Purpleheads.

Nick (freshly arrived from Ottawa) picked us up in a cab, and we got on a train from Union Station to Pickering - about half an hour out of town. Someone had managed to cover one window in our carriage with a whole bunch of PostIt stickers with nothing on them - is this art??
We've brought this bottle of Pinot Grigio from Ontario with us - it's light (the way we like it) and we like it.

Alice and Line (from Ottawa) had prepared some nibbles for us. The dip for the prawns was very lemony/horseradishy and lovely. Not pictured here, but there was also a little bowl of Pacific salmon roes on ice, so Akiko was very happy :-)) )
There were two birthday kids (54 and 40 respectively) at the party, so Glen & Alice had organised 2 cakes, and we'd brought some champagne and musical candles. See how Kousa couldn't wait to taste them and somehow managed to sneak into the shot, below left? ;-)

Our plate: the tiny drop of blue pretty well matched Usako's Bindhi...
