Friday, 8 September: As soon as we've checked in for our Atlantic Airways flight from London Stansted to Sumburgh and gone through the security control, we learn that our flight is delayed by over 5 hours, due to the fog in Shetlands. Since we are on a press trip, with all expenses paid for by the airline, we get to sit down for a champagne lunch at the Seafood Bar while waiting :-)

Prawns, Scottish smoked salmon (very good) and Bollinger.

UsaKousa get to eat the salad garnish (and drink some of the bubbly too.)
We finally take off in the early evening, and halfway during our flight we get to see an intense sunset.

From Sumburgh Airport we drive half an hour to Lerwick, the capital of Shetland, for a big Indian dinner at UK's northernmost curry house, Raba.
After stuffing ourselves, we catch the ferry to the Island of Bressay, where we are staying in lighthouse keeper's cottages.

Saturday, 9 September: We get up early to the beautiful sun. After breakfast (ok, coffee only for Akiko!) we take a few shots around the lighthouse.

At the gate to the lighthouse.

And looking the other way, with the mainland in the background.

The wind here is very strong, and it's fascinating watching the fast-moving clouds...

...and how the light keeps changing.
Bressay, and its neibouring island, Noss, are well-known for its wildlife. This morning we're going on a boat trip, guided by Dr. Jonathan Wills, to watch some of it.
A sign on the door to the public toilets at the Bressay Harbour.
As we are waiting to board the boat, we see a couple of crabs dancing with each other in the water (the sea water is incredibly clean and clear!)

(They obviously decided what they were getting up to was indecent - they go hiding under the seaweed towards the end ;-)
