| Saturday 25 November: weekend trip to Osaka, to meet up with friends & do some shopping. Mami took Yoko, Akiko & UsaKousa to a very popular outdoor standing bar near Kyobashi station. At 5PM, there were already dozens of people drinking around the van. | |
Back of the van is the "kitchen". |
Menu on the front of the van. |
And several big tables around it. |
Kanpai! |
We ordered 2 portions of the set menu: huge chunks of tuna (red & fatty bits, both absolutely *the* best quality I've ever had!), scallops & crabmeat in ponzu with lots of spring onions... |
...and several cucumber maki covered with uni & salmon roe! (These dishes came to £18. A big bottle of beer and a glass of sake were £1.50 each.) |
We were nearly full but still had to try the seared tuna (again in ponzu sauce) too - very tender and juicy, and for mere £2.60!!! |
Afterwards we went to a wine bar for more drinks & desserts, and this capuccino - with the froth looking like a rabbit's bum :-) |
Sunday 26 November: at a noodle bar in Umeda, I asked for "an extra portion of spring onions" and got this! |
Spices for Noriko's miso noodle (fried onion, garlic paste, spicy miso mix, sesame seeds), which you blend yourself to suit your taste. |
Room service noodle menu held by a pair of chopsticks, at Hilton. |
The latest flavour Look chocolate. |
|
Monday 27 November: izakaya dinner with Noriko & Mariko. Again, I was too busy drinking, eating and chatting to take many photos. Left: slices of seared sardine in ponzu sauce. Several sardine dishes were on the seasonal menu, we also tried them grilled, deep-fried and as fishballs in miso soup - all tasty :-) |
