Friday, 25 December: There have been several mice attacks at night, which seem to be intensifying. This morning an apple on the alter was found in this state :-((

Later on... Dinner at Nomura, starting with this sashimi platter. The white stuff in ponzu sauce is fugu milt.
Saturday, 26 December: Nabe party at our house, with local UNESCO's (mostly) young members. All three nabe with cod, small clams, tofu & veg, eaten with yuzu ponzu; the middle one is additionally flavoured with kimchi & miso.

Cheese!

Shoes.
Thursday, 31 December: At Nagoya JR station, we see this special "Joyful Train" for group hire - with tatami mats, each car fitted with karaoke system (see the mike?)

Several train-spotters are taking photos of its interior and exterior, but I manage to combine both in one image - unintentionally :-))
One traditionally eats soba noodles on New Year's Eve. I hit the local supermarket just before closing time and get all the ingredients (soba, prawn & veg tempura, okra, daikon, spring onions, etc.) for half price. So the year ends happily...
Friday, 1 January 2010: It's been snowing since yesterday, and we have a white New Year's Day. We walk through the local Kogane Shrine in the morning.

The komainu (a pair of stone guardian dogs found at the front of every shrine) has a big, white wig on.

His mate has an even bigger hair.
People coming to pray for a good year.
A bicycle tree on the street.
