We have been planning to get a taxi to Blue Lagoon, 6km away - until we are told there are no taxis here and we have to hitch a ride! After standing on the main road for 5 minutes, a young truck driver stops and gives us a lift - *phew*

Our friedly driver.

And his truck, heading back towards Reykjavík.

By the entrance to Blue Lagoon: UsaKousa surrounded by lava rocks.

This one has an interesting texture and a nice purple colour.

Outside Blue Lagoon.

This hotel & clinic are on the other side.
The main reason (excuse) for this trip: to buy this mini swimsuit for Cynthia's kewpie :-)

Another reason is for me to have a back/neck/shoulder massage, while floating on a mat - half in water, half above - an amazing experience!
And the water seems to work wonders on my various wounds too...

Which means the girls have to wait in the dark locker for a while (sorry!)

But they get a poolside drink afterwards (I should have used a flash, I know.)
As you may have noticed in the photo above, the water inside doesn't look very blue today for some reason - but the later it gets, the bluer it becomes. Interesting, must be with the angle of the sun. (I'm useless at physics, so don't ask me!)
Then we go inside for our dinner:
oven-baked salted cod with spinach topping & on a bed of ratatouille, with potato purée (which is basically a spiced mash :-) We also order a green salad with mozarella on the side.

The portions are huge, but we manage most of the food - along with two more glasses of house white, and a few slices of the bread with red pesto, served as nibbles.

See how thick the fish is?! It's also very tender - probably the best quality salted cod I've ever had.

This is what we see from the window, while we are eating :-)
We hop on the 9PM bus back to town. Now, the fare from Reykjavík to Grindavík, stopping at Blue Lagoon, was 800 Krona (6 pounds.) From Blue Lagoon back to Reykjavík costs 1100 Krona (8.50 pounds) - what a rip-off!
OK, we later realise this tourist price includes drop-off at various hotels, but it's still ridiculous!

Bye-bye, Blue Lagoon.

Layered clouds above the moon landscape. (You'll see more of these clouds on the next page...)

Snaefellsness is still visible on our way back, but only as a silhouette.
