Saturday, 21 July: today we're hooking up with our friends from the UK.
First stop: their hotel, overlooking the town.
UsaKousa enjoying the view from Dan's hotel room. After a while they decide they want to go onto the turfed roof outside...
We then drive to the village of Vestmanna (Westman, ie. settlers from the British Isles before the Viking invasion) for a 2-hour boat trip to visit bird cliffs.

A little village abandoned in the 60's (as there are no roads connecting it to anywhere else), but the former residents have kept their properties as summer houses.

More low clouds (sorry!)

Mountains here have very interesting shapes - some very angular, others very round and soft - you see similar shapes in Iceland, but the colours are different.

And some very angular rocks too.

There are many sheep grazing on the very steep cliffs.

You see caves like these all along the coast. They even have concerts in some of them - the accoustics are supposed to be amazing.

I hope you can spot the out-of-focus puffins in the water - I couldn't zoom any futher in, and it was impossible to focus from a rocky boat.

Soon we are out of the fjord and in the Atlantic Ocean, where it's very windy and the waves pretty rough.

A green elephant.

Looking back from inside a cave.

That's where we've just been.
We all have to wear helmets before going into caves. We laugh at the passengers on the other boat looking like a bunch of kids on a school trip, but I'm sure that's how we look too ;-)

(We are on a smaller boat, thanks to the expert advice from Stan that we can get right into the caves and closer to the cliffs.)

Dan snoozing on the sail back to the harbour...

...and his revenge when Stan dozes off.
When we get back ashore, we are all dying for a pee and a hot drink!

UsaKousa keep Vivienne's Irish coffee warm while she's out for a fag. Andrea and Anne are having non-alcoholic drinks, while I of course have to try the "Greenland coffee": with Grand Marnier and Whisky - *yum*
